My favorite season for edgeworthia is winter when the leaves drop to reveal the buds which form in late summer or early fall depending on where you live. Carolyn, I have an Edgeworthia in Seattle (zone 8) which does very well except that about 10% of the leaves become distorted each year in a way that looks like some kind of virus. But my worries are not that much about the hardiness as about the drought and heat tolerance in summer, as it is hot and quite dry in summer. Molly, If your edgeworthia forms buds, but they dont open, then you must be experiencing extreme cold during the time the buds are on the plants, late fall to late winter.
